In the 1950s the US magazine Fortune commissioned some wonderful cover illustrations. Here a two that I particularly like.
Jerome Snyder 1916 - 1976
A self-taught artist of extraordinary talent went on to become art director of Sports Illustrated and later Scientific American. He also produced large-scale paintings featuring a myriad of multi-coloured mosaics.
Sadamitsu Neil Fujita 1921 - 2010
Born in Waimea, Hawaii he moved to Los Angeles when he was 17 to study at Chouinard Art Institute. In 1954 he joined Columbia Records to work in their design department, where he created many classic jazz album covers. In 1963 he moved to the public relation firm Ruder & Finn and created their design division, later to become Fujita Design.
