Michael Wolff, Martin Lambie- Nairn and yours truly.
We have just returned from a week spent in Mexico. There at the invitation of the British Embassy to give a series of talks and informal classes on British design and in particular, branding.
One of our fantastically helpful guides and organisers told me just how much I was going to enjoy Mexican food, “We are the main producers of beef, pork and chicken. You will absolutely love it. It is delicious”, he said. I then sheepishly told him that I was a vegetarian. “What? – But can you eat chicken no?” “Err sorry, no I don’t”. This was clearly a horrific concept and insult to a carnivorous Mexican. Consequently I struggled for the rest of the week eating only salads and copious amounts of Swiss cheese. Why Swiss, I’ve no idea.
But that was a small sacrifice when compared to the pleasure of being in such a vibrant country. If I had to sum up the spirit of Mexico in single words it would go something like this; colour, chaos, laughter, noise, kissing, closeness, curiosity, courtesy, poverty, passion, music, mariachi, dignity, ingenuity, tenacity, tastes, history, warmth and welcome.
Here is my impression in pictures…
